Casa de Swag

August 5th, 2006

03:57 pm - Now it can be told!
Mayor Garcia and the inimitable Bill Burns of eFanzines.com (without whom I'd be relegated to publishing this on my own web server) bring us the eBound edition of issues 1-6 of Pacheco Progress, "The complete progress reports of the bid to bring the greatest convention of all-time to the greatest agricultural roadside attraction of all-time." If you're late to the game, you don't have to go digging through old journal entries to find all the issues.

If you're not subscribed to the eFanzines.com mailing list, you're missing out on great fanzines of today and yesterday, all available in easily-downloadable format.

...you may want to start by checking out the basic Hollister in 2008 info...

03:55 pm - Progress!
The final edition of Pacheco Progress (our regress report 6) is hot off the press.

In this issue:
  • Newsflash! Newsflash! Newsflash! (you'll have to read it to find out about what)
  • Casa de Fruta facilities, tested for your safety and comfort!
  • Meaningless statistics!
  • Worldcon 2008 predictions that would make Nostradamus weep!
  • The winner of the Hollister in 2008 Elementary Student essay contest! Didn't know we were running an essay contest? Don't worry, neither did we. We figure, though that this will give us as much credibility as "Writers of the Future" gives Scientology.
  • More reasons Hollister in 2008 is the best choice!
If this doesn't lose us the bid, nothing will!

06:04 pm - It's coming!
Worldcon, that is. laconiv. So all ya Hollisteristas need to be blogging about us, getting us more attention as the con approaches.

We've got a bid party scheduled for Wednesday evening (August 23) on the Lanai Level of the Anaheim Hilton (where all the parties will be). We've got 5 bidzines published, and Mayor Garcia is working on the sixth and final issue (which will allow us to finally publish the Bruce-Pelz-is-spinning-in-his-grave Bound Complete Edition).

Spread the Hollister love!

01:00 pm - Holy Placement, Batman!
If you haven't read (or haven't received, or aren't registered and getting) the L.A.con IV Progress Report 5, you haven't seen the great placement that our ad got.

We're the first bid ad in the progress report (page 11), and set opposite the "Getting there" article.

We've probably also got the best bid ad in the progress report. Sure, the Columbus ad is full of information and has a smiling robot, but who's to say that smile isn't just welded on? Denver's ad is a "Dr. Seuss" poem; I thought their theme was gnomes and buffalos with wings and things, not sneeches and whos and rhymes and strange times. And then there's the Chicago ad. It says nothing.

So remember, vote Hollister in 2008: Even with factual inaccuracies our advertising is better.

10:59 pm - You're not going to believe this...
We've got 66 pre-memberships as of Westercon. I just sent the "Holy Mother of God, let's jump in a car and abscond to Tijuana with the riches!" email to Mayor Garcia.

The complete report will be made at next week's basfa meeting.

01:31 pm - We Need Stickers!
First off, Thank you Andy for setting me up to post here.

We Need Stickers! Like all the other bids to stick on people's badges at the Bid Party.

Fruit come to mind. Gee I wonder why? :)

Any path, they are cheap, usually available at Teacher Supply Stores, and totally silly. Which is appropriate.

If you're not careful Andy, we'll get cows. >-) Those are easily available at TSS too.

Note - On my lj where I posted this first, Garlic stickers were suggested. First off, I was thinking of the Casa de Fruita connection, thus the Fruit, Duh. Second, Garlic stickers if they do exist, are rare. Fruit Stickers are common, some are even obnoxiously scented. Much better for our purposes. :) Hey, This is a Silly Bid!

Is there a Casa da Garlic at the site? Besides, Gilroy is the Garlic Capital not Hollister.

So, if anyone can find Garlic Stickers, we can talk. But in the meanwhile, the next time I'm someplace that carries Fruit, I'll probably pick some up. After all this is the "Swan Song" party, unless we decide to become the next Minneapolis in 73.

Oh, No. Nasty Thought! After We lose, we can change our year to 2009! There is Precedent now!

11:27 am - Progress!
A new edition of Pacheco Progress (our regress report 5) is hot off the press.

In this issue:
  • Voting for Chicago, Columbus or Denver could kill you!
  • Casa de Fruta inspired recipes you can expect to find in our consuite.
  • A reminder that San Benito County and Santa Clara Valley have good wineries, and the other bid locations have jack.
  • That important fifth issue that makes Pacheco Progress eligible for a "Best Fanzine" Hugo nomination
  • More reasons Hollister in 2008 is the best choice
If this doesn't lose us the bid, nothing will!

09:05 am - Membership drive!
If we can sell enough pre-supporting memberships before July 1, we have a chance to put an ad in the Nippon2007 Progress Report 3.

Seeing how we're a hoax with a uniquely California-centered joke, the idea of putting an ad in a progress report for a Japanese Worldcon has a bizarre appeal. The price is pretty good too.

Note: This is another chance for Bidcom members to have their names posted in pre-con advertising. If you weren't going to join bidcom because the advertising has already been booked, think again!

04:34 pm - Progress!
A new edition of Pacheco Progress (our regress report 4) is hot off the press. Our latest endorsement doesn't have the cachet of an endorsement from Locus or Science Fiction Chronicle, but it's still an endorsement, by gum! If this doesn't lose us the bid, nothing will!

Mayor Garcia is at it again with another devilishly difficult crossword. Do it at your own risk...
